About us

The Future Mental Health Collective (FMHC) is a global peer-to-peer network of private mental heath funders, united by a shared mission to accelerate progress in the mental health sector.

As a peer-led, member-driven collective, we are dedicated to providing a trusted, non-solicitation space where funders can come together to openly exchange ideas, experiences, and insights. But we’re not just here to have conversations - we’re all about driving real action. The Collective is designed to help ideas lead to tangible collaboration and impactful change in the mental health sector.

For those who are new to mental health funding, the FMHC also acts as a great support network, helping them to get up and running and to navigate the complexities of the mental health landscape. Find out more about our support for new funders here.

In a world where mental health funding efforts are often fragmented, we aim to reduce duplication and identify gaps in the sector. By connecting the dots across the global mental health ecosystem, we amplify our collective impact, enabling each member to accelerate their efforts and create meaningful, actionable change.

Together, we are shaping a future where mental health is a priority for all - ensuring that everyone has access to the care, support and resources they need to thrive.

Who we are

The Future Mental Health Collective is an initiative of Kokoro, and facilitated by Kokoro and NEXUS. We work in partnership with other conveners, such as United for Global Mental Health, the Global Mental Health Peer Network, the International Alliance of Mental Health Research Funders, BrainMind and the Mental Health Innovation Network.

As of 2025, we are a group of 150+ private funders that includes:

Global Representation

The FMHC is truly global, with members joining us from all corners of the world and supporting projects worldwide. We grow via word of mouth and are especially keen to hear from mental health funders based in less represented regions, specifically Asia, Africa, LATAM and Eastern Europe.

Funders focused on implementation

Our focus is on implementation funding, with members working on critical areas such as education, advocacy and access to effective and evidence-based mental health services. We are not a group for research funders but work hand in glove with the IAMHRF, to connect the dots across research and implementation funding.

Funders across the whole range of capital

Across the group, we span the whole range of capital from philanthropy and venture philanthropy through to impact and for-profit investment. This diversity allows us to engage a wide array of strategies and approaches, ensuring that our collective impact is as comprehensive as it is transformative.

We host online sessions every 8-10 weeks and occasional physical gatherings, particularly in the margins of events where we know Collective members will be present, such as Davos, the World Health Assembly and the UN General Assembly. We share a monthly community bulletin and support members via an online database and mapping tool and by making connections where we think this will be mutually helpful to do so. We also host an in-person retreat every other year, which is co-created with members and aims to further strengthen the bonds within our community and the impact of our collective action.
